Norway's Bsure Raises €1.8 Million to Uncover Risky Microsoft Accounts

Oslo-based startup Bsure has secured €1.8 million in seed funding to expand its platform that helps enterprises identify and manage inactive or high-risk Microsoft 365 accounts. The round was led by Schibsted Growth, with participation from Antler and several angel investors.

Bsure's technology scans an organization's Microsoft 365 environment, flagging dormant, misconfigured or suspicious user accounts that could pose a cybersecurity threat. According to the company, many large enterprises struggle to maintain visibility and control over their sprawling Microsoft 365 deployments, leaving them vulnerable to account takeovers, data breaches and compliance issues.

"Businesses are rapidly moving to the cloud, but securing those environments is a growing challenge," said Bsure co-founder and CEO Bjørn Olav Røkke. "Legacy tools weren't built for the complexities of modern SaaS platforms like Microsoft 365. We're giving CISOs and IT teams the insights they need to proactively manage identity risks."

The new capital will allow Bsure to accelerate product development and expand its sales and marketing efforts, targeting medium-to-large enterprises across Europe. The startup already counts several major Norwegian companies as customers, including Aker Solutions and Equinor.

Cybersecurity experts say that dormant or misconfigured cloud accounts are a common vector for cyberattacks, as threat actors can easily compromise them to gain access to sensitive data and systems. A recent report from Microsoft found that over 30% of enterprise Microsoft 365 users are inactive, highlighting the scale of the problem.

"Identity security is the new perimeter in the cloud era," said Schibsted Growth investment director Simen Fure Jørgensen. "Bsure's ability to continuously monitor and optimize Microsoft 365 environments is a critical capability for CISOs looking to mitigate identity-based risks."

The startup faces competition from established players like BetterCloud and Proofpoint, but investors are betting that Bsure's specialized focus on the Microsoft ecosystem will give it an edge. The company plans to expand its platform to support other major SaaS providers in the future.
