Katten Expands Private Credit Capabilities with Volsky Hire

Katten, a full-service law firm, has bolstered its private credit practice with the appointment of Dr. Alexander Volsky as a partner. The move signals the firm's commitment to growing its offerings in the increasingly competitive private credit market.

Volsky, a veteran of the industry, joins Katten from a leading global asset management firm, where he specialized in originating, structuring and managing private credit investments. In his new role, he will work closely with Katten's existing private credit team to further develop the firm's capabilities in areas such as direct lending, specialty finance and distressed debt.

"The private credit market has seen tremendous growth in recent years as investors seek higher yields in a low-rate environment," said Katten's head of finance, Jane Smith. "Bringing on an experienced practitioner like Alex will allow us to better serve our clients and capture more of this expanding opportunity."

According to industry data, private credit assets under management topped $1.2 trillion globally in 2024, up from just $600 billion a decade earlier. Much of that growth has been fueled by institutional investors, such as pension funds and insurance companies, looking to diversify their fixed-income portfolios.

Volsky's appointment comes as Katten continues to invest in its alternative assets practice. Earlier this year, the firm hired a team of private equity specialists from a rival firm to bolster its transactional capabilities.

"Katten has established itself as a go-to legal advisor in the private credit space, and I'm excited to join the team and help drive the firm's continued expansion in this critical market," Volsky said.
