German Startup Quantum Systems Raises €180 Million, Hits €3 Billion Valuation

BERLIN - Quantum Systems, a German drone manufacturer, has raised €180 million in a Series C extension round, propelling the company's valuation to €3 billion, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The funding round was led by Balderton Capital, a prominent British venture capital firm, along with other undisclosed investors. The capital infusion underscores the growing investor appetite for innovative technologies in the drone and autonomous systems space, as businesses and governments seek more advanced aerial solutions.

Quantum Systems, founded in 2015, has quickly established itself as a leader in the development of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drones, which combine the advantages of fixed-wing aircraft and multirotor drones. The company's flagship product, the Trinity F90+, is a high-endurance drone capable of carrying a variety of payloads for applications ranging from surveying and mapping to search and rescue operations.

"Quantum Systems has demonstrated impressive technical capabilities and a strong commercial traction, making it an attractive investment proposition," said a Balderton Capital spokesperson. "We believe the company is well-positioned to capitalize on the rising demand for sophisticated drone solutions across various industries."

The fresh capital will enable Quantum Systems to accelerate its research and development efforts, expand its international sales and marketing activities, and potentially pursue strategic acquisitions to bolster its product portfolio and market share.

The drone industry has seen a flurry of investment activity in recent years, with several startups attracting significant funding to drive innovation and capture market share. In a separate deal, Flexion Robotics, a California-based developer of robotic systems for industrial applications, secured $50 million from investors including DST Global Partners, NVentures (Nvidia's venture arm), and Prosus Ventures.

"The drone market is poised for substantial growth, fueled by the increasing adoption of autonomous technologies, the need for more efficient data collection, and the rising demand for commercial and industrial applications," said a senior analyst at a leading investment bank. "Quantum Systems' strong technology and market positioning make it well-placed to capitalize on these trends."
